Chapter 202 Harlan Wakes Up

After Isolde left Paletein Manor, she made her way to Garrett's estate,

Before she could even step inside. Britney rushed out to meet her. The moment he saw her, his face lit up with

excitement. “Lady Isolde! | was just about to head out to find you! Harlan’s awake!

Isolde’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t contain her excitement and rushed inside, eager to see him.

Harlan had just regained consciousness. There had been no warning before he woke up.

The manservant had entered to wipe his face, and as he did so, Harlan’s eyes suddenly shot open, catching the

servant completely off guard.

The servant quickly rushed out to call for help, while Patricia ordered someone to go get Sadie and decided to

visit him herself.

When Harlan woke, he wasn’t quite himself-still groggy, as if lost in a haze. When Patricia asked him a question,

he looked at her blankly, not recognizing her, as though he couldn't remember anything that had happened.

She sighed softly. I'm afraid he’s just been asleep for too long. His mind's a bit foggy right now.”

Isolde stormed in like a whirlwind, completely ignoring formalities. She dashed straight to the bed, and when she

saw Harlan’s eyes open for real, she breathed a huge sigh of relief. “Harlan, you're back with us.”

Harlan looked at her, his eyes brightening immediately. It was as if all his memories cflooding back. His lips

trembled slightly as he asked, “Are you.... alright?”

“I'm fine!” Isolde quickly greeted her aunt before sitting down by the bed.

When Patricia saw her, she smiled warmly. “Good, you're here. Talk to him-he didn’t seem to remember much

just now.”

“Thank you, Auntie!” Isolde responded, grateful.

Patricia reached out and affectionately ruffled Isolde’s forehead before heading out with the maids.

Harlan’s gaze flickered between Isolde and Patricia’s retreating figure. His hands shot up in excitement. “I

remember! It’s Patricia! Great Marshal is back, right?”

“Yes, Grandpa's back Isolde smiled, watching his excitement, but then gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Now, lie back down. You're not fully recovered yet.”

Harlan muttered, his voice low, “That's good, that’s really good. No one will bully you anymore.”

Hearing this, Isolde’s heart ached a little. She blinked, then replied, “No one’s ever been able to bully me.”

Harlan looked at her for a long moment, and with a soft sigh, he said, “Lady Isolde, I'm so sorry. | almost... |

almost hurt you.”

“It’s all in the past. | don’t even remember, Isolde said gently.

Harlan’s face was pale, his speech weak as if he could hardly breathe. Not long ago, he had been the strong,

imposing figure at Duke’s estate, but now, his strength seemed to have disappeared.

“Lie down first. Princess Sadie Bourbon will be here soon, Isolde said softly.

“How... how could | trouble the princess? Harlan stammered, his voice thick with shock. His eyes, which had

been fluttering shut from exhaustion, snapped open once more.

“I'll

TI make sure to repay her properly, | promise.” Isolde gently pressed the corner of the blanket down. “But don’t

say anything right now. Just rest.

Harlan was clearly drained, as though he’d just fought a battle. His body seemed completely spent. “I'm

useless...”

Isolde smiled softly, trying to comfort him. “No, Harlan. You're a hero.

His eyes darkened, and slowly, he closed them again.

Isolde could tell he was struggling with unspoken pain-things he couldn't ask about. She whispered, “I've been

fine all along. If you're feeling bad for me, just get better soon. I'll be okay. You'll see.

With that, she quietly left the room.

Harlan took a long, shaky breath. After a while, he exhaled, but his breath cout choked, his eyes glistening

with unshed tears. He turned on his side, not moving any further.

Isolde, hearing the faint sound, turned back, her heart aching for him.

Outside, she spotted Marley and Jessica.

Jessica was supporting Marley, who gazed at Isolde with tear-filled eyes, looking at her almost in awe. His lips

quivered, but no words cout,

Since Marley had woken up, he hadn't seen Isolde. She'd been recuperating, and it was only today, when her

condition had improved, that Jessica helped her over.

Tears continued to stream down Marley's face. He wiped them away, muttering between sobs. “It’s so good to

see you. You've grown so much... “You're here now, just like your mother would've wanted. She was always. so

excited to see you, but she... she never got to hold you....

Isolde felt a lump rise in her throat, her eyes beginning to sting.

She stepped forward, gently taking Marley's hand. She took a shaky breath and forced herself to speak without

breaking down. “Marley, Mom's always been with me. She’s never left my side.”

“Yes, really. She's with you, always.” Marley’s hands trembled as he gripped hers, tears flowing freely again.

Jessica gently intervened, “Marley, please don’t cry. You should be happy. Lady Isolde would want to see you.

smile, not cry.”

“I'm happy... | really am!” Marley sniffled, wiping his tears away. His voice was thick with emotion. “But when |

think about Lady... my heart just... aches...”

Isolde’s heart broke for him. She lowered her eyes, hiding the tears that welled up. “The wind’s strong. Auntie.

You should go inside and rest. I'll go visit Grandpa and Grandma.”

With that, she quickly fled.

Once outside the courtyard, she leaned against a pillar in the corridor, breathing heavily, trying to shake the

heavy feeling in her chest.

Marley’s words had hit a nerve-a raw wound.

Her mother had eagerly awaited her birth, but never got to see the daughter she had sacrificed her life for

And Prunella had never even known if her child was a boy or a girl, despite all the hopes.

Anger and pain tangled inside Isolde’s chest, a bitter mix.

“Isolde!” Anthony’s voice rang out from behind.

Isolde froze. She wiped the tears from her eyes and turned around to face him.

He was dressed in a plain outfit, looking like a thug about to start a street fight.

“What are you doing here? And why are you dressed like that?” Isolde asked, raising an eyebrow.

Anthony gave an awkward smile. “Marshal Sharp wants to see me. | figured, might as well dress the part, you

know? Look more tough.”

“You've always been tough,” Isolde shot back. She remembered how he used to fight in the manor-always taking

a beating, coming out looking like a wreck, but never giving up. Tougher than most men, despite all the bruises.

Anthony shrugged, a bit sheepish. “Yeah, but | don’t get why your grandfather wants to see me. I'm kinda

nervous.

“I'm heading to see him now. Wanna cwith?” Isolde offered.

“Sure!” Anthony's face lit up. He wasn’t afraid of much, but Garrett Sharp? That guy had everyone's respect.

When they reached the training room, Garrett was already there. His spear cut through the air with deadly

precision-each move calculated, sharp, and cold.

Anthony flinched, the sight of it making him uneasy. He'd trained a bit, learned a few moves here and there. He

thought, back in Windermount, that no one could touch him except for Isolde.

But now? Watching Garrett in action, he realized his own moves were just flashy, weak imitations. He felt like a

kid playing with sand.
